ABOUT WEBER FARMS

We would like to thank you for taking the time to learn more about our cattle and farming operation. The Weber family has lived in the Plainview, NE area for over 100 years. Merle and Phyllis Weber started the operation that is now Weber Farms. Merle grew up on the family farm located 7 1/2 miles northeast of Plainview, which is now the center of the livestock operation. His parent’s, Millard and Esther Weber, operated a small diversified farm that included a beef and dairy herd along with row crops. In 1967, Merle purchased a farm located east of Plainview on Highway 20 where he lived the majority of his life. Merle is a lifelong farmer and has been honored for his commitment to agriculture many times. In 1972, he was awarded the Outstanding Young Farmer award. Over the years, he has served on various boards and committees with his longest commitment serving as president of the Plainview Rural Fire District. Phyllis grew up on a farm near Creighton with her parent’s, Ray and Ruby Demerath. In 1969, the family moved to Tilden where Ray operated a feedlot and was one of the first cattle feeders to construct Harvestore Silos.

Today, Merle and Phyllis’s two sons, Jim, and his wife Amy, and Kevin, and his wife Jamie, are actively involved in the farming operation and provide the majority of the labor and management. Jim’s primary responsibilities are with the registered Angus cow herd. The main goal in the breeding program is to focus attention on maternal traits such as udder quality, fertility and fleshing ability. Herd sires and females have been selected based on these traits with importance also being placed on production and carcass traits. Our belief is that in order to have a calf to send to the livestock market or feedlot, you must first have a cow that will do everything right for her calf. It is the intent that every bull or heifer raised in our program will have the right genetics to improve any commercial cow herd!

Kevin’s responsibilities revolve around the row crop and custom farming. The crops that we primarily grow are corn and soybeans. We have implemented the latest technology in farming including the use of yield monitors, RTK auto steer, and variable rate technology. We offer all of these services to our customers in the Plainview, NE area at competitive rates.
